Cause: Maternal Health
Location: Nepal Visit Date: October 11-22, 2014 Description: Based on over ten years in Tibet, One Heart World-Wide (OHW) has developed the Network of Safety, an effective, replicable and sustainable model to reduce maternal and newborn deaths in remote rural areas of the world. The OHW model builds a network of upgraded health facilities, trains local providers in maternal and newborn health, and empowers local communities to take ownership of the program. In 2009, OHW began implementing the Network of Safety in a remote, rural area of Nepal (Baglung District). Come join the OHW team in a field visit to Baglung District and see firsthand how our team is reducing maternal and newborn mortality. This will be a life changing experience that you will never forget. |
Cause: Vung Tao Orphanage
Location: Vietnam Visit Date: September 4-5, 2014 Description: Thousands of orphaned children in Vietnam live in government-run orphanages, but a serious shortage of funding leaves most of these children vulnerable and unequipped. Orphan Impact provides relevant computer and internet skill training - involving critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity - to help these children gain the self-confidence and practical skills set that they need to succeed in their post-orphanage years. |
Cause: House & Bridge Building
Location: Vietnam Visit Date: September Description: Sahaya International, a US 501(c)3 organization, helps relieve poverty in rural Vietnam by providing adequate homes for impoverished families. In the province of Kien Giang. located in the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam, rural families live in inhabitable conditions. The infrastructure of their homes is very weak. The roofs are comprised of leaves and plastic tarp that provide minimal protection from the tropical climate. As the rain leaks through, the undeveloped dwelling floors turn into mud. |
Cause: Summer Camp
Location: Lanzhou, China Visit Date: July or August every year Description: We held our second camp for our congenital heart patients this past July. These kids have spent too much of their young lives in and out of hospitals. Not only was this the first time any of these kids have attended a "camp," it was their first experience in a city! Now that they've recovered, we want to give them a chance to just be a kid. This isn't an easy task. Our camp attendees all come from poor rural families, and are further isolated and stigmatized because of their poor health. They do not have the opportunities and leisure time kids are expected to have. Being low-income and in poor health, they have never had a chance for "play" or attend school. Our goal is to help build their self-esteem and inspire them to believe in themselves and their potential. |
Cause: Leprosy Care & Heart Project
Location: Kunming, China Visit Date: All Year Description: Dr. Liang and a group of volunteers have been providing care to a leprosy rehab village for over a decade. In China, people with leprosy are sent to isolated places without emotional or physical support. They are essentially deserted by society. Through organizing trips for domestic and foreign volunteers to travel to leprosy villages, the Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry provides medical, living, and psychological assistance to this population in need. |
