Santa Cruz Beach DayOn Saturday, July 15, 2017 the O'Keefe volunteers took the students for a fun day to Santa Cruz. Everyone had a great time, especially at the beach! Summer activities like this help the tutors/mentors build relationships with the students, even when they're not studying.
The Taiwan Prison Ministry reaches out to Vietnamese people in Taiwan through church fellowships and activities in prison, such as worship services, discipleship, and Bible memorization contests. July 4, 2017 Dear Agape Fish Fund, First of all we would like to express our appreciation for your hearty support of our ministry through both finances and prayer. We want to inform you how your support has helped the Taiwan Prison Ministry. 1) Compassion Fund: Supplemental Food and Prizes
Every so often the Taipei prison releases a number of inmates who have finished their jail term or who are on parole. However, new inmates continue to come and replace the released ones. Therefore, the number of inmates continues to be at least a hundred people. Part of your donation goes toward our compassion fund for the inmates, which enables us to do the following:
The extra acts of kindness such as providing birthday cakes and supplement food has a great impact on the prison ministry. Lots of inmates write to express their appreciation for our love and care. As a result, their hearts are open and receptive. We often have new conversions and baptism for inmates who have finished our discipleship program. The Bible verse memorization contest helps the active believers to develop self-control for life change and minimize disciplinary consequences. According to the prison’s policy, the inmates who have good behavior records can be eligible for parole sooner. This rule has been applied to a number of converted inmates who were released recently. Our ministry partner O’Keefe has been busy these past few months, wrapping up the school year strong with their tutoring program for low income students. AprilWe continued the weekly tutoring sessions on Thursday and Monday, one for middle school students and one for elementary school students. The fun event this month was taking a Thursday to decorate cookies with the kids. What a great way to celebrate spring break. MaySome of the kids were starting to finish their homework already, so the challenge was to keep them productive during the tutoring time. Our tutors still wanted to give them their attention, even if it meant reviewing the homework to check it over.

Grant Results: January-July, 2016
We were able to buy end of the year prizes for all of our students and host a party to celebrate the end of the school year. Over the summer, we are hosting various enrichment activities for students, including baking, playing at the park, and visiting the zoo. End of the School Year Party We hosted our annual end-of-the-school-year party in June for students and volunteers. The party included outdoor games, water balloons, photo frame signing, and prizes for students. As usual, it was a lot of fun. We are proud of our students and volunteers for finishing another successful school year! Grant Outcome Summary
The grant supplied by Transparent Fish Fund was used to provide practical care to the neediest migrant workers at the shelter. This care is shown through providing nutritious meals, clothes, sandals, phone cards, transportation assistance, and activities. Caring for Migrant Workers
Throughout the island of Taiwan, there are 5 detention centers with approximately 200 migrant workers housed in each one. Many of the workers are victims of exploitation and various kinds of abuse by brokerage agencies and employers. As a result, they willfully leave contracted jobs and find work elsewhere. Sooner or later, they get caught and are transferred to detention centers. They stay there for about 4 months while waiting for their legal documents to be recovered, and then they return to their home countries. The Christian and Missionary Alliance goes into the detention centers to evangelize, counsel, and care for the migrant workers' basic needs. As the laborers stay at the shelter and wait for offers on new jobs, they have no source of income. The grant we have given to the Taiwan Labor Concern program enables the migrant workers to have sandals, soap bars, toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels, coffee, tea, snacks, weekly meals, telephone cards, and ferry and subway tickets. As care is shown to them in practical ways, these hurting workers have responded in attending weekly activities and church meetings. |
