Mid-Project Report: Low Income Tutoring (September 2017)

​Agape Fish Fund partners with O'Keefe, which provides tutoring and mentorship to low-income students in East Palo Alto. This year we'd like to enrich 12 of the students with field trips to see a nativity drama and to provide school supplies for them.

On Saturday, September 2, 2017, we took the kids to Willow Park for the morning. Everyone had a great time on the playground and hanging out.

Encouragement from Pastor Marcus Givens

​Pastor Marcus Givens, Development Officer at Bayshore Christian Ministries, visited O'Keefe during the last week of September. He wanted to share this encouragement.

Dear O'Keefe team,

Thank you so much for the very warm reception tonight, and special thanks to you, Aimee and Joshua, for the tour of both of our turoring centers! It is very exciting to see kids working on their multiplication tables, reading, learning to pronounce and read new words, and the like.

​​You are all doing a great work, and I am very excited to see the close relationships you obviously have with the kids there, and even those not coming to tutoring tonight. Keep up this wonderful ministry, and you can bet I will be back.

About Marcus Givens
Marcus has been part of the BCM family since volunteering for a personnel committee in the early 1990’s. He says he is a proud member of the can’t-get-rid-of-me club! Marcus went to Milpitas High School, studied electrical engineering & ended up with a B.S. in mathematics from Morehouse College, and then received his Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School. He has served in youth missions and pastoral ministry roles at several churches and ministries, including BCM. Currently he serves as a Development Officer and has been in that role since December of 2014.

He is happily married to Jeannie, and they have two adult children, Joey and Taylor. Marcus loves teaching God’s Word, learning about new languages and cultures, and playing board games with his family. He counts among his hobbies solving Sudoku puzzles (conquering the “Evil” ones); watching classic war movies; reading espionage, submarine warfare, and techno-thriller novels; and watching his favorite show, Star Trek (Original Series).
