Agape Fish Fund partners with local churches and volunteers to provide meals, supplies, and Christian support for the homeless in San Jose, California. May 12th OutreachOn Saturday, May 12, 2018, a group of 7 volunteers was able to serve 14 homeless people. This was a two-part outreach. Part 1: Homeless Came to Us for FoodDuring this outreach, we got in contact with my friend Nelva, who goes to church at the Christian Worship Center. She supplied pastries, breakfast burritos, and fruit for us to pass out. This was an event where we were able to set up tables, and have the homeless come to us, and whatever extra we had, we went out to the encampments and passed out. Part 2: We Went to the EncampmentWe distributed supplies such as: socks, toilet paper, water, hand wipes, bug spray, lotion, dog food, cat food, toothpaste, batteries, toothbrushes, pastries, breakfast burritos (with the meat being supplied from Chick-fil- A), pears, soap, and tire repair kits. Most of the items were the typical items we normally bring to the homeless encampment. The items that were a major hit were the tire repair kits and batteries. Normally we always try to ask what other items are needed, but they usually tell us that the items we normally bring are a big help. May 19th OutreachOn May 19, 2018, a group of 6 volunteers served 8 homeless people. We distributed clothes, plastic boxes, flashlight, sunscreen, batteries, and food. Some new items that were distributed at this outreach were plastic boxes, flashlights, and sunscreen. Flashlights are really useful at night because of the lack of electricity for the homeless. Plastic boxes were an excellent idea because people who are homeless usually collect a lot of items from various places, and it is a convenient item to have to help transport their personal items when they have to move. Sunscreen was a good idea to bring since it is the start of summer, and the extra clothes helps since there will be a greater need to change clothes with the summer heat coming. Joseph Senay did an excellent job leading the group for this outreach. Throughout this outreach they went into the encampments to help pass out items to the homeless. They were also able to team up with another church Christian Worship Center to help pass out food. The group talked to Salvador, who conversed with our group, talking about how he got a car, and that he was currently taking computer classes. Report written by Andy Pham
